I believe we are at the start of a small business revolution. Yep, I said it, revolution. It seems most large companies have taken to the business model of hiring workers as cheap as possible, making products/services as cheap as possible, and selling them for as much as they can. What do you get from that model? Employees who aren’t happy and are worked to the max, who then work less efficiently which leads to poorly made products or inferior services provided to the consumer, all the while the company owners and share holders increase profit. That model won’t stand the test of time. As a consumer, I am willing to pay more for a product/service if i know it’s a quality product made by happy employees.
That’s where small businesses come in.
There’s never been a better time to be a small business owner. The internet has made it possible for anyone who puts in the time and effort to be able to start their own business. Got a product? You can sell it directly on Amazon. Got a service? You can make a website and advertise on social media at very low cost. It’s a lot of work, but if it’s something you enjoy then work doesn’t seem like work anymore.
The coming revolution will be started by extremely motivated individuals who have found their passion and want to share it with the world. That’s what a lot of big businesses seem to be missing, passion. Too many companies are only about profit. They forget that it’s a trade, they give us a product/service and we give them money to grow their business and pay their salaries. Consumers choose where they shop and what they buy, and more consumers are starting to choose quality over cost. That’s good for small business.
